Contaminated Land Management Strategy and Program
The NSW Department of Industry – Lands (DoI-Lands) engaged Nation Partners to deliver a Contaminated Land Management Strategy for its Crown Land portfolio, which accounts for approximately 42% of NSW land and comprises some 580,000 parcels.
Working collaboratively with the Department of Industry – Lands to identify fundamental drivers, Nation Partners developed specific objectives and a holistic strategy for contaminated land management, comprising an optimum mix of both proactive and reactive management techniques.
In order to achieve compliance and alignment with the National Environment Protection Measure, our team comprehensively reviewed and implemented changes to contaminated land processes and procedures.
To allow the Department of Industry – Lands to focus its resources on the areas of the greatest risk, Nation Partners developed a risk screening process for the portfolio and systematically interrogated data management systems to apply risk ratings across the portfolio.
A Contaminated Land Management Program was then developed to target these key risk areas, with detailed project plans and a preliminary business case created to guide appropriate planning, prioritisation and resourcing of risk mitigation works.
Our team also trained over 100 staff across the Department in contaminated land risk management.

Nation Partners developed and applied a customised risk assessment process to allow DoI to focus on its areas of highest risk. Nation Partners also worked with internal and external stakeholders, including the NSW EPA to gain support for the strategy.
Establishing a contemporary, best practice approach to contaminated land management in property transactions within ageing and complex property management systems.
Nation Partners worked collaboratively with all relevant business areas of the Department of Industry – Lands, across various geographic locations, to fully understand property management processes and to effectively integrate contaminated land requirements.
